Director

Sharon Thrupp

Sharon’s life has been consumed by travel. She got her first travelling experiences exploring her home country of Australia, and after that taste of life on the road she set off further afield and spent many years living and working in New Zealand, England and Scotland. Sharon then spent several years volunteering in the Himalayas, firstly in a rural village in Nepal and then in Dharamsala in India, the home of the Dalai Lama.

In Dharamsala, Sharon started her travel business. She wanted to share her knowledge and passion with others, and so Ekno Travels was born. Nowadays Sharon splits her time between India and Australia, and continues to share her love of travel with others as the director of Ekno Travels and TravelEK.

Sharon specialises in Buddhist pilgrimages and walking tours, and she continues to lead tours in India, Japan and Australia

‘Everything about our trip to India was fantastic – the accommodation, the guided tours, the flow of the whole adventure, the way we were looked after and India itself. The tour guides were very knowledgeable, interesting and informative. Thanks again Sharon, you did a great job.’

‘What a way to finish our trip in India. Thanks Sharon Thrupp and Shiv Kumar for organising everything so perfectly for us. The drivers and guides have always been on time and have treated us with the utmost respect. Feeling very blessed and lucky to have had this privilege.’

‘The pilgrimage to Japan was a very authentic experience. I think that this is the beauty of travelling with a guided tour, it means you'll have someone very knowledgeable and experienced in travelling overseas to help with delving into the everyday lives of the culture visited. Sharon paid extra attention to my needs, and I was very grateful and thankful for that. Sharon provided that extra support so that I could see the highlights that I’d been dreaming of. Thanks again, Sharon!’
